You find it confusing and overwhelming to choose just that one cloth diaper that is right for your baby! But what if I tell you that all these types will work for you? Yes, quite surprising it is. There is no type that won’t work for you. It is more like, there are types that may not be suitable for your baby at the moment.
Some say that you need to try every type to know which diaper fits your baby. But is that true? No, not in all cases. You need to know what features a diaper has to know if it will suit your baby. It depends on your requirements and if a diaper meets it, you can go for it. So how do you choose the right cloth diaper for your baby? And how do you know if it meets your needs? You need to consider these three main things!
- Your baby’s age
- Your baby’s wetting pattern – heavy wetter or medium wetter
- What time you are looking for – daytime, nighttime or both.
1. Your Baby’s Age
Your baby’s age plays a major role in choosing the perfect cloth diaper for them. With your baby’s age their wetting pattern will change over time. Although you see them peeing less frequently than before, the quantity will increase. So you should not leave out this factor when you are considering a cloth diaper. You may wonder that when not every baby is completely potty trained by 3 years, why cloth diapers are not recommended above 3 years of age. It is not only for cloth diaper but also disposable diapers.
Many parents in India prefer to potty train their babies as early as they can. Yes, cloth nappies had always been a part of baby rearing in India. Hence we were used to potty training them earlier. However, baby’s who are ready to potty train will show signs. You can successfully potty train yourr baby with ease if you start at 20-24 months within 36 months. Even partially trained babies will show sense of independence and they will refuse wearing diapers beyond the age. Which we should definitely respect. Moreover absorbency for toddlers after 3 years is not sufficient with diapers (disposable too). Size is a matter too. And you will find it rather difficult to potty train them beyond 3 years! That is why cloth diapers are not recommended after 3 years even for night only wetters.
2. Baby’s Wetting Pattern
Baby’s wetting pattern will help you determine the right absorbency you need. You need to remember that age and wetting pattern goes hand in hand. For example, your baby is 6 months and a heavy wetter. But if you compare your baby’s wetting pattern to that of a 2 year old medium wetter toddler, they need only less absorbency. So you need to consider their age when deciding their wetting pattern. Your 6 months old baby will need only a little extra absorbency if they are a heavy wetter. But if your toddler is a heavy wetter, you need extra absorbency for their level of wetting pattern. So you cannot decide wetting pattern independent of your baby’s age.
3. What time you are looking for!
You can decide on the number of pads and absorbency you need depending on the time you are looking for. You need less absorbency for daytime than nighttime.Although babies are more active during daytime than nighttime. It is for the same reason you are going to change the diapers during daytime every 3-4 hours. You need to change at such intervals because babies are active and pees more frequently. So you can say their wetting frequency is more and so more diaper changes is required. So if you use a nighttime heavy wetter combo during daytime, most of the booster pad will go fresh into the used pail. Because the main pad would have been sufficient for the daytime usage interval.
Depending on the above three reasons you can choose the products among our wide range of cloth diapers. Here is a reference table which shows how to choose which cloth diaper according to baby’s age and wetting pattern.
